A recent attendee from our Dallas Google Analytics Seminars for Success asked us how he could best:
"I need to report on product downloads by country. I am using event tracking to track our products successfully. And, of course I can have it display the number of downloads of each product to a given country. But, my superiors want a report where I break it down by:
Asia Pacific (AP)
Europe, Middle East, Australia, (EMEA)
Latin America (LatAM)
North America (NA)
How can I group countries together so that I can have a selection to display countries by one of the given groups listed above?"
Well, we think the best way is to use Advanced Segments defined for each territory as follows using a regular expression:
Asia Pacific (AP)-
Brunei|Cambodia|China|Indonesia|India|Japan|Laos|Malaysia|Myanmar|Philippines|Singapore|South Korea|Thailand|Taiwan|Vietnam|Pacific IslandsForum|Australia|Federated States of Micronesia|Kiribati|Nauru|
New Zealand|Samoa|Palau|Papua New Guinea|Marshall Islands|Vanuatu|
Solomon Islands|Tonga|Tuvalu|American Samoa| Fiji|Guam| Hong Kong|Macau|
NCL|North Korea|Northern Mariana Islands|Timor-Leste
So your Advanced Segment would look like:
We Wikipedia to build our regular expression list for AP, here are the lists for the other territories.
Europe, Middle East, Australia (EMEA)
Europe, Middle East, Africa:
Latin America
LatAM
North America
NA
